Vinoba Bhave University

Vinoba Bhave University is a state university founded on 17th September 1992 with its headquarters at Hazaribag. The history of the University goes back to the time of the establishment of St Columba’s College in 1899. In 1972 postgraduate courses in History and Economics were introduced and in 1983 four more subjects were added. The College was eventually was converted into a post graduate centre of Ranchi University. Finally, by Act 3 of 1990, the Bihar state assembly amended the Bihar state Universities Act 1976, carving Vinoba Bhave University out of Ranchi University.The University imparts undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in Physical Science, Life Science, Earth Science, Social Science, Humanities, Commerce, Engineering, Medical Science, Law, Education, Homeopathy and Ayurveda and conducts seminal research. The University has 25 postgraduate and undergraduate constituent colleges under its wing, the oldest being St. Columba’s College, Hazaribag.
